LEAGUE

We are a month into our league season and we hope you are finding it competitive, but fun. It’s great to see old faces and to settle some old scores, but also encouraging to see so many new faces.

Is it my imagination or are they getting younger and fitter every year?

PUB TOURNAMENT

Speaking of fun, we are excited that our 37th Pub Tournament is merely three weeks away, namely 03 – 05 June.

This is the longest running pub tournament in South Africa and is known nationwide for lots of squash, lots of drinks, lots of eats, lots of entertainment and an abundance of fun. So, don’t miss out, bring the family along for a fun filled weekend.

And… have you seen the magnificent Pub Tournament shirt advertised behind court 3? (Thank you, George!) I would join just to get this shirt in my goodie bag!

If you have not entered yet, feel free to enter as an individual and we will slot you into a team – ENTER NOW

We expect between 100 and 120 entrants this year. We need lots and lots of goodies for our goodie bags, as well as prizes. Anyone out there who is able to sponsor items small, medium or large, please take this opportunity to spread your branding to more than 100 players and guests. Please let us know what you can sponsor by FRIDAY 20 MAY. We will need these delivered to our office by FRIDAY 27 MAY (or we can collect from you). For further information please contact any of the committee members or email marketing@dbvsquash.co.za

SPONSORS & UPGRADES

We simply cannot thank our generous sponsors enough for being an integral part of the substantial upgrade of our Club over the last year. You will see our sponsors advertised throughout the Club as well as on our emails and website.

With the help of our sponsors and members, here is a recap on what’s been done so far:

  • New Club logo and colour designs
  • New Club shirts
  • New office and meeting room
  • Replaced old balustrades
  • New tables and chairs, plus new bar stools
  • Display of four world class squash themed canvases, with the approval and support of the PSA
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Electronic clocks, fans and glass doors at each court
  • Installation of an industrial strength extractor in the smoking Lounge
  • Floor and wall maintenance of each court
  • Complete overhaul of the entrance foyer and stairwell
  • Repainting of Club inside and outside
  • Reparation of external walls and water gulleys
  • Implementation of recycling as part of our Go Green initiative

So, what’s next?

First, the good news!

We will be starting with the upgrade of the mens’ change-room soon!

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and disruptions caused and we will try to minimise these.

And, more good news!Upgrade of the ladies change-room, free standing toilets, and of course, the Club kitchen.

You might be wondering how we determine what projects to do and when to do them? Our projects are prioritised according to funds available and according to YOUR requests as per our member survey of 23-31 May 2021.

This is why our member subscription fees and sponsorships are so important.

On that note, a reminder that we still have sponsorship space available for advertising on our court glass doors and electronic clocks. For more information, please email marketing@dbvsquash.co.za

And for the not so great news….

LOADSHEDDING

Please be advised that the Club will run generator power during load-shedding only on MONDAY to FRIDAY 08h00 – 22h00, unless there is a club or social event held over the weekend. Durbanville Squash Club falls into ZONE 6, so please check the load-shedding schedule before arriving at the courts outside of these hours.

THEFT FROM MENS CHANGE-ROOM
There have been a few incidents of clothing being stolen by thieves from outside the bathroom window. These individuals are able to grab clothes hanging on the clothing rails if the clothes are close enough to the open window. When hanging your clothes, please make sure the windows are closed or rather don’t use the hanging spaces within arms reach. We will resolve this during the change-room upgrade.

I hope to see you all at the Pub Tournament! Until then, here’s to hoping for great health and great squash for all of you.
